The Critical Infrastructure Dependability Laboratory (CIDLab) is affiliated at Department of Geoinformatics at Gdańsk University of Technology (GUT).
GUT is one of the most prestigious universities in Poland, founded in 1904, and located in Gdansk, where „Solidarity” was born. Recognized as a renowned research university, serving more than 19,000 undergraduates and graduate students in 9 faculties. It has an academic staff of over 120 full professors and over 600 associate professor having doctor’s degree. GUT cooperates with more than 80 universities and numerous European and national institutes and educational and research institutions.
CIDLab constitutes the integral academic component of the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics - the largest and leading GUT faculty - and it serves as a R&D and education center for various projects in homeland security area.
Its activity is focused on maritime security research, development, demonstration and evaluation of new technologies, practices and procedures that support the littoral security and critical infrastructure protection.
CIDLab will be housed in the new building of the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of GUT sponsored by European Union under Integrated Regional Operational Programme ZPORR.
CIDLAb aims at developing the Seashore Safety Geographic Information System (SSGIS) integrating management capabilities as a novel Web-based GIS for taking advantage of multiplicity geospatial data sources including Remote Sensing (RS) and both US and European “best practices” to provide support to civilian and port services involved with:
monitoring for security and civil protection, including critical infrastructures (CIs),
threat detection,
scalable risk management at the degree of detail of municipal and port areas at national as well as at regional scale,
communication with both the port personnel and ships' crew,
control over security cameras and systems,
firing different types of alarms in chosen locations,
management of port infrastructure (lights, gates etc.),
management of a sensor network.
CIDLab has modular structure, and so far consists of five modules, viz.:
Module of Littoral Security and Harbour Protection,
Module of Hazards Mapping and GIS,
Module of Sensors and Sensor Networks,
Module of Computer Safety and Network Safety,
Module of Transport Security.
